SPEA faculty are highly esteemed in their respective fields; they are also engaged and respected within the SPEA and Bloomington communities. But as a student, particularly at the beginning of one’s graduate school career, one of the most daunting endeavors can be approaching a professor for the first time.
To alleviate this pressure and facilitate faculty-student relationships, the Graduate Student Association has initiated Concentration Coffees. Students and faculty are given a casual atmosphere (complete with coffee and cookies from the wonderful Bloomington Bagel Company!) in which they can discuss topics ranging from course advisement to starting a career in public service. Over two afternoons, more than 100 people filled SPEA’s Tavis Smiley Atrium with conversation and connection.
Just one more way we are helping fulfill SPEA’s mission of “stronger communities.”
